The Gardens and Landscapes of Northern England
- Innovative, Hardy and Sustaining
This tour is presented in conjunction with the Royal Horticultural Society
The majestic settings of Yorkshire’s countryside and its historic cities have inspired ambitious designed landscapes as well as intimate private gardens.
On this tour we have a week in which explore garden history from the medieval through ‘Capability’ Brown landscapes to the contemporary sculpture park. We will meet the curators, owners and gardeners who undaunted by a northern climate made and make Yorkshire’s gardens great. The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) will provide a behind the scenes visit to their northern showcase – the Harlow Carr Botanical Gardens.
Local recipes have evolved to sustain hard working gardeners and we will also enjoy traditional home-baked Yorkshire cuisine during our visits. We will be based throughout our stay in the elegant spa town of Harrogate.
