Words from a Quiet Pool
Izaak Walton’s England and the rivers which inspired it
England is a land rich in angling literature and tradition. Izaak Walton’s ‘The Compleat Angler’ was first published in 1653 and his ‘contemplative man’s recreation’ became the bedrock of angling literature in England and much of the English speaking world. This is an opportunity to visit the rivers that inspired him, and the many famous names who trod, fished – and wrote – in his footsteps. We shall visit the River Dove, and have exclusive access to the fishing Temple built in his honour beside it. There will be chance to visit and cast a line on other English rivers of historic importance and speak with experts about their restoration and care.
